Alexander Negrin
"…indisputable mastery…a thoroughly compelling revelation of the music's inner raison d'être..."
…from child prodigy to acclaimed artist.
Born in Sydney to European parents, Alexander Negrin studied organ, piano, singing and percussion in his native city. He gave his much lauded conducting debut at the age of nine when he conducted Beethoven's Fifth Symphony with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in the Sydney Opera House. Upon finishing school, he relocated to Europe and continued his musical studies in Austria. In a career spanning almost three decades, from Australia to Finland, from Berlin to Barcelona, he has conducted in concert halls and opera houses throughout the world, and broadcast numerous times on television and on radio. His all-engaging passion for music is equally evident through his stimulating and thought-provoking talks on all aspects of the art, making classical music approachable to an ever wider audience. Furthermore he is a highly accomplished pianist and organist, giving recitals on prestigious instruments in such places as Berlin Cathedral, Sydney Opera House and Sydney Town Hall.
The distinguishing quality of his music-making, exceptional in my experience, consists in an unmistakably genuine personal expression allied to a highly acute musical instinct. On the podium he spares neither himself nor the musicians, and the music acquires a spontaneity which is both thrilling and moving. It is for this all-too-rare calibre, an unaffected artistic integrity which places him far above the rank and file, that Alexander Negrin deserves to be widely recognised and valued. That is the highest praise that I can bestow, and those who know me will know what that means.Franz-Paul Decker (†2014)
